Payson Computer Services
Nathan England has been a private consultant for several years, managing Microsoft Windows and
Gnu/Linux systems in seperate and combined networks. While evangelising the use of Linux, Windows
has been adopted where needed, as it better served the customer.
Focusing on providing the absolute best service possible, only the best tools for the job are used:
- Gnu/Linux
- FreeBSD
- Microsoft Windows
- Other Propeitary and Open Source Environments ...
Payson Computer Services never pushes a system into a place it doesn't belong. For the business owner who
plans to maintain the system after development, installation, or upgrade has taken place, you are
provided with all necessary documents and information required to do so. You are always given all the
information up front, or when completed, so you may 'fire me' when the job is finished.
There is nothing scarrier in the business world than hiring a consultant to fix or replace something
only to have him leave and take your documentation with him. Our focus is to get your systems
functioning as quickly as possible, with as little maintenance required as possible, so you can do your
job, and not worry about mine.
As the name implies, we are a Linux shop. We prefer to use Linux when and where possible because
of it's inherent security vs just about everyone else. When you add cost into the issue, it greatly
outpaces all its competitors, even FreeBSD. Only because it's many times easier to find a Linux
consultant than a FreeBSD consultant.
Many times journalists and magazine writers like to mention that at the end of the day when all is said
and done, the cost of Windows rarely outweighs the installation benefits of Linux. They claim Linux may be
free, but installation time added onto consultant fees end up being the same, and in many cases, Linux is
far more expensive. In my experiences, this is absolutely true. When you do not have a department or
person dedicated to IT support, you must hire a consultant. If you hire a consultant that typically only
handles Windows software, then ask him to install a Linux setup, you'd be right. Not knowing what he is doing,
it will cost twice as many hours as a Windows Install, and usually many long distance phone calls to a Linux-Friendly
consulting company to help him out. With competent Linux expertise from the beginning, it is rare to find a Linux
installation that takes much longer than a similar Windows installation, and once completed, the Linux system will
require much less future repair or management.
That being said, no software is unbreakable. The truth about Linux is not a whole lot are specifically trying to attack
it, atleast not like they are attacking Windows. The major benefit of Linux and the Open Source world as a whole,
within hours of an exploit, attack, or virus for a particular piece of software, the developers usually have a patch
completed, if not an entirely fixed source tree to correct the problem. Meaning your unsafe software can be safe
within days, not weeks and in many cases months or years!
If your systems need a little cleaning up, or a complete replacement send an email and request
custom services, or call the telephone number and setup an appointment.
No goal is too big, no job is too small. Payson Computer Services, we'll handle it all.
